The Elusive Boots

I'm a high heels girl. Heels are my go-to shoes for just about every occasion. That being said, I had a hard time with the riding boots trend. 1" heels? I simply couldn't do it. Until I found some amazing Ralph Lauren riding boots at DSW. However, the price tag was a little higher than I usually want to spend, especially on a trend that I still wasn't completely sold on. I saw them on clearance a little while later, but they were out of my size- "average" size 8. (I could only find size 10, but was still tempted to get them, that's how cute they were!) So I kept looking. and looking. and loooooking. I'm pretty picky with flat shoes- they have to have the right shape toes, and not too much hardware, and while faux leather is ok, I don't want it to look too fake. That's a lot to ask for in a boot! I ordered a pair from Overstock.com, but they didn't fit great either (and had a horrible plastic-y smell, even after spending a weekend in my garage.) so they went back. And I'm still looking.

Date Night!

Jacket- The Limited (thrifted), jeans- The Limited, necklace- Lia Sophia, heels- Target (here)

My husband is amazing. And adorable. And I love him. He's always so amenable to going out for any occasion- tonight was simply that I found an awesome coupon for Old Spaghetti Factory (yummmm!) so we bopped downtown for dinner.
I am totally in love with blazers lately. I've bought probably four in various materials and colors in the last two months. A blazer can instantly dress up and mature any outfit. (Adam was so cute when we were getting ready too- worrying about whether he could wear a blazer since I was already wearing one. He didn't want to be too "matchy")
We found this cool reflect-y wall (my technical term) by the Guthrie, so I posed. What other excuse do I need?

I Am Not a Hipster

Vest- Maurices, jeans- Express (thrifted), heels- Audrey Brooke @ DSW, necklace and bracelet- Lia Sophia

When I first put this outfit on, the skinny jeans and t-shirt/vest combo felt a little "hipster-ish". And I am not a hipster. Adding the belt and heels helped. And then for some reason, I could not stop adding turquoise/teal/aqua blue accessories. It started with the shoes, and then went to the necklace. And bracelet. And earrings. I stopped myself from painting my nails that color too, but it was a close one.
Overall, I thought this was a fun and simple way to dress up what was basically a t-shirt and jeans.

Numero Uno

The tree was trying to eat me!

Coat- thrifted, DIY embellished (copying this coat, just like Jessica did here!)

This has quickly become one of my favorite articles of clothing. I'd wanted a khaki trench coat for a long time, and when I found this one at Goodwill (for $9!!) only 2 days after seeing Jessica's makeover coat post, I was inspired. My personal tailor (aka my mom) added the bias tape trim ($3) for me, bringing the grand total of my jacket to right around $12!! And I wear it all the time. I feel like it gives any outfit an instant upgrade, a touch of classic elegance. What is an item in your wardrobe that elevates your look?
